The Motivating Factor

When I was a young boy growing up in Argentina, I met a fabulous woman missionary named Theda Krieger. Theda was a single woman who directly and indirectly taught me and my 5 sisters how to win scores of people to Jesus Christ.

Through the years, it is said she and another missionary partner planted over 120 churches in Argentina. 120! They did this by connecting with children in neighborhoods and putting on Vacation Bible Schools. Through the children, they would get to know the parents.

Eventually, whole families were converted and began to attend church. Even though Theda, an American from South Dakota, is now in her 90s, she’s still serving the Lord in my home country.

Whenever I think about missionaries, it brings me back to the basic evangelism question: Why do we do what we do? We need to know the answer, so that our motivation is in line with what the Bible teaches.

Second Corinthians 5:12 says, “Christ’s love compels us because we are convinced that one died for all.” We share the Good News because we know and love God through Jesus Christ, that’s why. It is so thrilling that we want everybody to know Him!

Theda Krieger’s love for Christ gives her the motivation to share the Good News. May Christ’s love also compel you and me to be faithful in reaching your world, wherever that may be, till our dying day. Are you committed?

Heavenly Assurance

When I think about what God offers us through His son Jesus Christ, I find it staggering! He forgives all of our sins – one hundred percent. He also gives us His Holy Spirit to live within us.

But the most staggering thing of all probably is that He offers us the only way to Heaven. And that isn’t just a nice thought. It’s an absolute assurance!

The Lord tells us, when you die, you’re going straight to Heaven. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:8, “Absent from the body, present with the Lord.”

Too many people simply don’t have the assurance of Heaven. Did you know? Unfortunately, we live in an age where it isn’t very popular to say that Jesus is only one way.

And yet, if you believe the Bible, you can’t deny the truth that Christ is the only way to the Father. And we’re commanded to tell the world about Him!

So be sensitive, but speak the truth in love to those who are searching for answers. It may be someone you work with, go to school with, or sit next to on a plane. Sometimes all it takes is a simple question like, “Where do you think you’ll go when you die?” It’s a great conversation starter.

You’ll be amazed by how that one question may lead to their salvation! So try it and God will use you.

Flexible Methodology

Have you ever had a creative idea for sharing the Good News, but then shied away from it because it seemed too crazy? I’m here to tell you that even the apostle Paul used non-conventional ways to spread the Good News Gospel so, don’t give up too quickly, okay?

In I Corinthians 9, Paul says, “I make myself a slave to everyone to win as many as possible. To the Religious, I became like a religious person to win them to Christ. To those under the law, I became like one under the law …I became all things to all men so that by all possible means, I might save some.” Paul had a clear conviction. His passion, his personal attitude was, I will put no obstacle in front of the Good News. He’s saying he’ll preach the Gospel no matter what, because that’s what God has charged him to do. When it comes to methodology, he’s flexible. He did whatever it took, within reason, to present the Good News to the people of his day.

The truth is that if your method is ethical and moral, you can use any method you want. Methods aren’t important – it’s the message that’s sacred and essential. So do whatever it takes to communicate God’s love and grace to people in your world and God will use you.
