Christ’s Divinity

Sometime ago, a radio host questioned me about the divinity of Jesus. He said that Jesus seemed like a decent guy – he used those words – similar to Gandhi or Martin Luther King, Jr. But, he asked, wasn’t it going too far to say that He was God’s Son?

My answer to this objection was to paraphrase the great British writer, C.S. Lewis. Lewis said that Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord He claimed to be. Anybody who claimed to be the Son of God, born miraculously, and raised from the dead, is either a maniac or the real thing – C.S. Lewis was right in saying that.

We either agree that He was who He claimed to be, and He did what he claimed to do, or we should dismiss him outright. But it’s hypocritical to say He was simply a great person. If Jesus wasn’t the Lord, then he deceived millions of people. Why would that be someone to admire?

If Jesus wasn’t the Son of God, He has no ability to change people, and no authority to offer Eternal Life in Heaven. But because He is God’s Son, Christ has the power to miraculously transform lives – like yours and mine!

Second Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.” What an exciting truth to share with your world!

A Fulfilled Life

Years ago I was in the middle of one of our live counseling television programs. We had a woman call in named Maria, who confessed that she had a terrible addiction.

“I have a big problem,” she said. “Ever since the casino opened in our town, I keep going and losing money. I need some kind of guidance.”

I was so glad that Maria had called. I told her that her gambling addiction was her way of expressing that she was far from the Lord. Yet Jesus Christ could fill her soul and heart.

I said, “Look Maria, when you give your life to Christ, you’re fulfilled. You have peace. You have excitement in life. You have a goal that isn’t self-destructive. You don’t have to end up in a disaster. You don’t have to end up in divorce. You don’t have to fall to gambling anymore. If you open your heart to Jesus and let Him come into your life, you will be set free.”

It was such a privilege leading Maria to the cross of Jesus Christ, and walking her through a prayer of repentance and acceptance. In Philippians 4:13, St. Paul says, “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”

Who in your world needs to hear that Christ can help them overcome their addictions? You can give them the message of Good News, and help them turn from darkness into the light.

Is it too Late?

Is it too Late?
A few years ago our team was in the midst of our live call-in Talk Show in Chicago. In the middle of the program, a teenage boy called up. His name was Mark.

Mark said to me, “Mr. Palau, when my father died, I cursed God. I was so angry that he died that I walked out of the church. For three years I’ve had nothing to do with God and nothing to do with the church or Jesus Christ or anything else.”

Then Mark asked me, “Mr. Palau, do you think that God would ever take me back into his church?” I was really moved by that.

This boy was only 17 years old, and yet he had this sense, “I’ve blasphemed God because my father died. I cursed him and I walked away from the church.” But Mark was repentant and his heart was broken. That night live on television, I helped lead this young man back to the Lord.

You know, there are many people who have walked away from the Lord, and are wondering the same thing: “Is it too late? Will God take me back?”

Jesus said in John 10:28 that those who come to Him will never perish and “no one can snatch them out of my hand.” You and I are called to be the voice of Christ, calling people back into His family.
