He Gives Power

How many of us want power, fight for power, dream of power, and dream of power? We all long for power – in spiritual areas and in human areas. But do you know how to achieve the kind of power that comes from God?

Jesus Christ tells us how to receive His power in Acts 1:8: He says, “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and even to the ends of the world.”

Real power is the power of God indwelling us. When we have His Holy Spirit in us, we have authority to be Christs witnesses to our world. How does this work? As you listen to the Spirit of God, and obey Him, youll be making wise choices.

Youll be speaking winsome and prophetic words. If you do what the Spirit tells you to do, there is authority and theres power as you act with conviction. Youll have a supernatural authority thats delegated from God to you.

And the world will take notice! If you obey the voice of Jesus, there will be power unleashed. And things will happen that you cant even begin to imagine!

The Holy Spirit will give us power to see the impossible accomplished. So dont give up sharing the Good News with your world. Remember, you have power and authority from on high!

Energy for the Task

When you labor on something, you get tired. Think about it. You wash the car, and afterwards you need a rest. You tackle your wifes “Honey Do” list, and afterwards you need a break. You put in a full day at the office, and afterwards you need to relax.

Our laboring takes energy! But what about laboring for God? Does it take MORE energy because its “spiritual work?” How are we to go about the “unfinished task” of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ … without burning out?

The Bible says in Galatians, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” Imagine that! It goes on to say, “The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

That is good news. That means that our labor in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ is energizing! Christ lives within us. He gives us all the fuel we need to share His love and Good News. If you are tired today, ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit. And may that be MORE than enough as we press on in this unfinished task of winning the world to Jesus Christ.

Light in Jesus Christ

Victor Hugo, the famous European philosopher and writer, once said this: “The true division of humanity is between those who live in the light and those who live in darkness. Our aim must be to diminish the number of the latter and increase the number of the former.”

Thats a great goal, but then unfortunately Hugo continues with, “that is why we demand education and knowledge.” Education and knowledge were all for, of course, but they dont get you out of darkness into light – at least, not morally and spiritually.

This Christmas, Im reminded that true light cant be found in education or science or philosophy. True light is found only in Jesus Christ. Jesus says in John chapter 8, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

This Christmas, dont lean on your knowledge, or career, or education to enjoy the light of life. Those things are good, but they cannot bring lasting peace. Lasting peace and true life can be found only in Jesus Christ. Surrender to Him today and enjoy living in the light of Jesus Chris

A Second Chance

Are you in a spiritual crisis? At some time or another, most people come to a place of crisis in their faith. Maybe you used to be on fire; you were excited about Jesus Christ; you were joyful; you loved talking about the Lord.

Then, like a slow leak in a tire, you began to lose momentum. The joy disappeared; and the fire fizzled out. Now youre settling for a mediocre existence, and the last thing you think about is evangelism!

Does any of that describe what youre going through? If so, dont despair – there is hope for change! The answer is found in Romans 12:1&2. In this passage, Paul urges believers to “offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy, pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.”

What does this look like? It means you come to the Lord. You confess to Christ where youre at. You fall on your face and present yourself as a living sacrifice to God. Its a re-commitment, in a sense, of your life to Christ.

And then, as Romans goes on to tell us, Jesus begins transforming your mind and heart so that you desire what He desires. His passions become your passions. His priorities become your priorities – including Christs heart for the lost.

Share Your Story

Many postmoderns dont necessarily want to hear Christian doctrine or theology. Those topics can actually be real conversation-stoppers if thats how you start out. But your personal story is different. It can be a powerful way to open up spiritual discussions with your friends. Why? Because no one can dispute your claim of how God has radically transformed your life. Theres nothing to argue about. And actually, from my experience, most people will listen with interest.

The blind man in John chapter 9 is a great example of sharing a personal testimony. When questioned by the religious authorities about Jesus, this man didnt argue theology or philosophy. He just told them what happened by sharing his story: “One thing I do know… once I was blind, but now I see.”

Think about how God has rescued you from a life of spiritual blindness. Remember how He brought you into a relationship with His son, Jesus. Why not invite a friend to coffee and talk about your life stories. As you share about your own experience with God, youll be planting seeds of truth. Prayerfully, those seeds will lead to a harvest of righteousness in their soul!
