He is Alive

Leading Others Into Freedom

Imagine that right now, wherever you’re sitting, you hear the noise of your front door go ‘boom.’ And you turn around and Jesus Christ, Himself, comes into your room. Wouldn’t that be something?

He comes to you and says, I want to have dinner with you tonight. What would your response be? Perhaps you’d be excited, maybe a bit nervous. I can imagine you’d have many things to talk with Jesus about. And you’d be looking forward to hearing His words of love and wisdom poured out to you.

But you know something? If you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, He is with you — right now! Even though you can’t see Him, He really is living with you. No, your front door won’t open. But when you receive Jesus Christ into your heart, the Son of God literally comes into your life. He speaks to you through His Word and His Spirit. The Bible says, “Whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him.”

Jesus can be as real to you as a physical figure walking into your house. It’s important to meditate on what it really means that He is lives in you, and is one with your spirit. The more we believe this to be true for ourselves, the more likely we are to share this wonderful promise with people in our world.

The Word of God

In the beginning of the book of Joshua, Moses has just died. Joshua is now in charge of leading His people to the Promised Land. In Chapter 1 the Lord tells Joshua: “I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.”

This marvelous promise wasn’t just for Joshua — it can also be claimed by followers of Jesus today. This means that we, as we head into spiritual battle for souls, God promises to give us victory.

But, before we can experience this success, we need to understand the conditions for enjoying such a promise. The conditions are found in verse 8 of Joshua 1, where God says: “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Even though Joshua was at least 65 years old at this point, the Lord took him right back to the basics – spending time with God and His Word. That’s the key secret to successful living through Jesus Christ.

The Bible is the essential element for success in all areas of our lives, including our witnessing. No matter how long you and I have been Christians, we must purpose to spend time each day with Jesus Christ, and His Word.

Then, as you share your faith, God really will give you ‘every place where you set your foot.’ Victory, success, God’s way, that’s it!

Giving the Call

A few years ago I was speaking at an evangelism conference. A young British man came up to me and introduced himself as Rupert. He was a 31-year-old clergyman in the Church of England. Rupert said to me, “Mr. Palau, when I was 16 years old I went to the stadium in London to hear you preach. I had no idea what Christianity was about. But I was converted that night and my life has never been the same!”

Now, this young man of 31 is serving the Lord in ministry in England. How exhilarating it was to hear about Rupert’s decision to believe! Whenever I hear stories like that, I think of III John 4: “I have no greater joy than this, to see that my children are walking in the truth.”

There truly is nothing as exciting as when someone makes a commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ, especially when God uses you. So we need to remember to always give people a chance to respond to the Good News. You may sow the seed, but be sure to give the option of responding to Jesus Christ as well. Don’t just throw out the seed and hope for the best.

Part of the Good News is the call of Jesus Christ. I promise, you will receive no greater joy in your entire life than when you get to pray with a soul ready to accept Christ. Think of how many people are simply waiting for you to ask them the question! So, go ahead and ask!

Be Joyful Always

I love this statement that C.S. Lewis makes in one of his books: “Joy,” he says, “Joy is the serious business of heaven.” If I interpret that thought correctly, it means that heaven, namely God, is very interested in His people enjoying life. God wants us to live a joyful life, a happy life, a contented life.

I think one of the best ways we can witness for Jesus Christ is simply by being joyful. Many non-believers have the perception that Christians are sour-faced, angry people who live by a set of legalistic rules that keeps them from having fun. Who would want to follow a religion like that?

But, the Bible paints a very different picture. Paul says in First Thessalonians 5:16: “Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances. This is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.”

Now, we can’t do this on our own, especially when hard times come. But that’s the beauty of the Holy Spirit, the indwelling Jesus Christ. He gives us the ability to be joyful and hopeful, even in dire circumstances, because we have the promises of His Word.

Why don’t you ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit and therefore His joy today? When you approach life this way, then people will be drawn to the life of Christ flowing out of your spirit.
