Hope for Today’s World

These days, we use the word “hope” all the time. “I hope this year will be better than last year and I hope the market goes up and I hope my stocks do better.” Lets “hope so.” But, real hope isnt about hoping things will go better. The hope Im talking about is reality – a living expectation – squarely based on Gods revealed promises.

When you open your heart to Christ, God actually comes into your life. Thats real! Suddenly, you know God for yourself. And it isnt a religious thing. It isnt just doing the proper thing on Sunday or Christmas or Easter. Now its a deep, personal relationship with the Living God. You become a child of God. Suddenly you have peace with God. You know youre loved. You have the Holy Spirit. Youre a new person.

The Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” And your hope keeps on growing as you get to know God more and more each day.

The miracle of Christmas is hope. Christ came to earth as a baby to bring us this hope. He died and rose again so we might have real hope, not just “hope so.” Who has God placed in your path who needs to hear of this hope? Pray, and ask the Lord for the opportunity to lovingly, respectfully, share His hope with your friends and family.

A Blue Christmas

Have you ever heard of the song, “Blue Christmas?” Elvis Presley used to sing it. Its about a man who is feeling down because his loved one is not with him on Christmas. Hes pretty depressed, really, and thats how a lot of people feel during the holidays. They feel alone, afraid and uncared for.

Maybe you or someone you know is going through a “Blue Christmas.” Perhaps you have had a disappointment this year. A tornado… a flood? Maybe youve lost a job. Maybe a family member died or theres something else that just didnt turn out the way you had planned.

The truth is: We live in a sinful, fallen world. Things dont always happen the way we expect. But the miracle of Christmas is hope because when Jesus Christ comes into our lives, hope comes alive. We have hope because God is with us. He is good and He will never leave us. Jesus comes to live in our hearts and transform us, giving us strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

If your friend is depressed, this Christmas invite her or him over for some hot cider. Encourage them with the promise found in Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him.”

Beth’s Story

Do you think that miracles only happened back in biblical times? If you think that, youre mistaken, my friend. That is simply not true! There is lots of proof of Gods miracles – He is alive and active today!

Beth has a miracle story that she shared with me, and I want to share with you. At just 28 years of age, Beth was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia – a type of blood cancer. She did not know Jesus Christ. She spent 8 months in the hospital and thats where she came to know Jesus.

She wrote to me and said that her life is now “in the hands of God.” Then, a miracle happened! Beth wrote me and said that she has been Leukemia-free for four years now. Thats a miracle! Thank You, Jesus!

The book of Job tells us that God “performs wonders that cannot be fathomed and miracles that cannot be counted.”

To celebrate His miracles, we must SHARE His miracles. Will you do that today? Tell someone what God is doing in your life. Remind them of His miracles. Your story just may lead them to Christ. What could be better than that?

Believing by Faith

At the age of 100, Abraham was enabled to become a father for the first time. Can you imagine? Now you talk about miracles, there is a big one. He was 100 years old. His wife Sarah couldn’t have children. She was through. She was 90 herself. Yet, God said, “You shall have a child,” and by faith Abraham believed.

Abraham didn’t have blind faith, though. He had faith in God and in God’s Word. Romans 4:17 says Abraham believed in “the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.” Because of that, the impossible became possible at God’s word.

Is there an impossible situation you’re facing when it comes to evangelism? Is there a loved one who seems so far away from God that you wonder if she’ll ever come to Christ? God simply asks us to obey Him and believe, in faith, that He has the power to do what He promises. And what does He promise? That he will bring life to the dead, and call things that are not as though they were.

So don’t give up hope. Keep praying. Keep talking wisely. Keep believing that your loved one will some day come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Because the God who worked miracles for Abraham is the same God today! Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
