What is Love

What is love? Deep within our soul, we long to know true love. Human love is nice when it lasts, but sometimes it’s temporary. When it changes, it hurts. We experience pain. Grief. Sorrow. We think, “If this is love, then I don’t want it!”

Maybe that’s why people don’t understand when the Bible says “God is love.” They think love can go bad. When we think of love, we think of human relationships that hurt. Humans do not know how to love perfectly. Only God does.

The Bible says that “love does not boast. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.” Now THAT is true love. That’s how God meant for it to be!

As followers of Jesus, we are called to choose to love God and the people around us. We are to love in a way that leads people to Jesus. We are to love in a way that shows people God’s sacrificial love.

Next time you think of love as something that can go bad, dig into God’s Word! The Bible contains the true definition of love in I Corinthians 13. If we know love because God loves us, then we must tell other people! Tell people, today, that God offers us unconditional love.
