Peace Through Christ
I know a man who divorced his wife many years ago. He had three children with that first wife. But he walked away, married another woman, and had two children with this second woman. After a few years, he was really distressed by what he had done. He felt terribly guilty.
One day he said to me, “Luis, I want to be reconciled to my first wife, but she hates me.” And then he said, “If I had treated my first wife the way I treat my second wife, I would never have divorced.”
Isn’t that sad? I told him, “You go and tell her that and maybe she’ll forgive you.” So he did. And do you know she forgave him and he was reconciled with her and the children?
Now, he’s still married to his second wife. But this man has peace now. Even his face has changed. He’s like a new man and he’s been born again because God forgave him. He has peace with God, peace in his soul, and peace with others.
Romans 5:1 says, “We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Do you know someone who does not have peace in their family, perhaps because of the need to forgive or be forgiven? You can offer them the encouragement that with Jesus Christ, reconciliation is possible.
