The Body of Christ
What the World Needs to Hear
Have you ever thought about the fact that as a follower of Jesus, you are actually His body? That might sound strange, but it’s true! The New Testament book of Ephesians tells us, “We are members of [Christ’s] body.”
This means we’re His fingers, His arms, His mouth, His eyes, and His ears. We are literally the extension of Jesus to a broken and hurting world. He’s using you and me to draw men, women, and children to Himself!
When Christ was on earth for 33-1/2 years, he used his physical body to accomplish His will. Now that He’s in Heaven, He uses us as members of His body to fulfill the Great Commission. That’s been part of His plan from the beginning of time. Isn’t that a thrilling thought? It gives such purpose to our lives!
So how can you be the body of Christ to those around you? Perhaps by being His arms, to hug a grieving friend. Or maybe you’re His ears, listening to a lonely widow share her stories. Or you could be His mouth, speaking an encouraging word of Scripture to a depressed co-worker.
Whatever you do to reach out with the love of Christ, remember that you are His body, the fullness of His life, in you, extended to help save your world.
