A Softened Heart

About five years ago I was in North Carolina with one of my wife�s relatives.� He was celebrating his 70th birthday.� Now this guy is very bright – he has a PhD and is very intelligent.� He�s also been an atheist his entire life.� He would tell me, “Luis, I don�t believe in God.� That�s just a crutch for weak people.”

But while we were at his home, I noticed a Bible on his bed stand.� He said to me, “I�ve always bragged that I�m an atheist, but when I turned 70 I started asking questions. I don�t want to fool around anymore. If there�s a God, I want to know Him, and if there�s eternal life, I want to have it.”

Isn�t that amazing?� This guy was ready to get serious with God because his youth was gone.� That can often be the case with people who are facing the last years of life.� Is there an older person you know who has never made a decision for Jesus Christ?� Maybe it�s your grandma or grandpa.� Perhaps you think they�ll never change. Don�t give up!� Luke 1:27 reminds us that “Nothing is impossible with God.”� Pray believing that God will soften their heart.� And then take a step of faith, and share the Good News with them.� They may be ready, even now, to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
