He’s at Work

Evangelism Tips November 3rd, 2009

Galatians 2:20 is one of my absolute favorite verses. “I have been crucified with Christ,” the apostle Paul says, “and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God…” Notice how plainly Paul puts it: Christ lives in me. Do you realize the magnitude of that reality?

The power of Jesus flows through you and me – every moment of every day – touching people everywhere we go.

In fact, even when you’re not aware that’s Jesus is working, He’s still at work. Sometimes the best evangelism results come when you don’t think you’re being used. You walk into a situation, do what you’re supposed to do, and suddenly things begin to happen. It’s so exciting!

Jesus can work through you anywhere you go – at the office, at the club, in the neighborhood. Just be yourself in Christ and people will notice something different. It’s really that simple. You don’t have to put on an act. You don’t have to pretend that you’re a Christian. You are one! Jesus Christ is alive in you today!

So, as you walk with God today, remember that He’s working through – right now! Let the truth of that sink in! May it motivate you to continue reaching your world for Jesus Christ.

Biblical Stories

Evangelism Tips August 28th, 2009

This Postmodern generation wants stories. They love stories. They learn from stories. And that’s not bad. It’s great to weave stories together as we present the Good News to this generation.

But, as we tell stories, we must always make sure that there is truth in the stories — Biblical truth! In the midst of being relevant to the culture, we need to be making the point of truth. And the truth of the Good News Gospel is centered on the doctrine of the cross. Jesus Christ shed His blood for the sins of the world.

That must be an essential part of the stories we share. Why? Because the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christianity. Without the belief that Christ actually died for our sins, rose again, and is alive today at the right hand of God, our religion is just that – religion. With no power to change lives. Remember, without the shedding of blood there’s no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22).

So when we share our faith, you and I must focus on the true story of Jesus Christ’s death the resurrection. It’s amazing, powerful, Good News for a weary and broken world!

God’s Grace

The apostle Paul risked everything for the sake of spreading the Good News. In the book of Acts he says, “I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

Later, in II Corinthians, Paul says that “Christ’s love compels us.” That’s why he was risking life and limb, reputation and sickness, hunger and discomfort, to spread the message of Jesus Christ all over the world.

Well, that’s fine for Paul, you might think. But I’m certainly not called like that. It may be true that not all of us are called to travel to the furthest corners of the earth to share the Good News. But each person is called to testify about the grace of God that’s changed our lives. Jesus commands it!

Paul was always aware that he was nothing without Christ’s love and forgiveness. It’s what compelled and motivated him to speak of the Savior until his dying breath. Are you and I that overwhelmed with God’s grace?

If not, maybe it’s time to ask God to remind you how He’s changed your life. That revelation can be a great motivation to speak His truth to your world!

Just As We Are

Evangelism Tips August 13th, 2009

As believers we know that God expects us to share the Good News of His love and eternal salvation with others. Some people step out on faith and take God’s word to the world as missionaries. Most Christians never take that step, either in the belief that God is sovereign and doesn’t need our help, or – more likely – because we feel we lack the gifts of evangelism.

The truth is that God doesn’t care about how gifted or talented or good looking we might be – He only cares that we are obedient. In the early 1900’s a young, uneducated parlor maid named Gladys Aylward felt called to preach the Gospel in China. Too poor for the ship fare, she traveled overland by train, then bus, then mule, ending up in the city of Yangchen where no one had ever seen a European.

Over the next two decades and through World War II she shared the love of Christ through tireless service to the Chinese people. Her remarkable story is remembered through books and the movie “The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.”

Whatever our gifts or status in life, God wants us in the missions field, bringing Good News, just as we are. If you have a story about reaching your world as a missionary we would love to hear it. Please drop me a note at radio@palau.org.
