Differences and Similarities: Perspective

Evangelism Tips May 25th, 2009

Christians aren’t perfect. I’ll be the first to testify to that. But one benefit we have in Jesus Christ is the eternal perspective He offers us.

When stresses and problems come our way, as they do in everyone’s life, a believer’s reaction is significantly different from a nonbeliever’s. The defining difference is the perspective with which we approach these problems.

As frustrating and painful as people and circumstances may be, Christ-followers know that this world is not the be-all and end-all. We live today in light of eternity! It’s a joyously free feeling to not be trapped by earthly burdens. We know that heaven is our true home.

This perspective is not something nonbelievers can understand. All they are living for is here and now. But the Bible says, “this world in its present form is passing away.”

There is so much more to life than the present! Won’t you reach out and tell someone about the reason for your lack of fear and worry? Won’t you tell someone what Jesus Christ has done for you?

The One Solution

Evangelism Tips May 15th, 2009

Some time ago a friend of one of our boys put a gun to his head and shot himself. He was only 16 and the son of a wealthy, notable doctor. A few days before this young man’s death, our local newspaper reported that a well-known clinical psychologist committed suicide, leaving a note to his staff stating that he felt “tired, alone, and suddenly very old.” What sad stories!

Suicides are increasing at alarming rates. Thousands of people feel like the clinical psychologist and the high school boy. They feel that life is empty. Overpowered by the idea of “nothingness,” they either take their own lives, or seek escape through drugs, alcohol, and other addictions.

Why do some people despair of life itself? Psychologists offer many answers to that question, but only one true solution exists–Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can meet people’s deepest needs when their world suddenly falls apart.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus told his disciples, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.”

As followers of Jesus, you and I have the responsibility, and privilege, of being faithful messengers of this hope to those in our world.

Serving God 100%

Evangelism Tips April 13th, 2009

When I was in Australia a few years ago, I met Milton Morris, a member of the Australian Parliament. We were at a luncheon together and Mr. Morris said these words that I’ll never forget: “Being one hundred percent for Christ is so much better than fifty percent!”

It’s a simple statement, but I thought, How true! One hundred percent is the only way to live for Jesus Christ. It’s the only way to experience the wonderful life He has for you and me. And it’s the only way to witness to our world about His glorious power, and His plan for mankind.

So what does it look like to live for Jesus 100%? The Bible says his servants shall serve the Lord with zeal. Second Peter tells us to “be zealous, be committed.” And you can serve Christ like this no matter who you are, or what you do.

You can serve Him as a teacher, a businessman, a housewife, a student, or a truck driver. Whatever you do, you can serve the Lord Jesus by being fervently committed to sharing His Good News.

God’s number one plan for reaching the world is through you and me! So why not make a fresh decision today? Commit yourself to serve Him with zeal – nothing less than 100%! And then watch God work through you to change your world – one heart at a time.

Beth’s Story

Evangelism Tips April 6th, 2009

Do you think that miracles only happened back in biblical times? If you think that, you’re mistaken, my friend. That is simply not true! There is lots of proof of God’s miracles – He is alive and active today!

Beth has a miracle story that she shared with me, and I want to share with you. At just 28 years of age, Beth was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia – a type of blood cancer. She did not know Jesus Christ. She spent 8 months in the hospital and that’s where she came to know Jesus.

She wrote to me and said that her life is now “in the hands of God.” Then, a miracle happened! Beth wrote me and said that she has been Leukemia-free for four years now. That’s a miracle! Thank You, Jesus!

The book of Job tells us that God “performs wonders that cannot be fathomed and miracles that cannot be counted.”

To celebrate His miracles, we must SHARE His miracles. Will you do that today? Tell someone what God is doing in your life. Remind them of His miracles. Your story just may lead them to Christ. What could be better than that?
