Fragrance of Christ

Evangelism Tips November 5th, 2009

Second Corinthians chapter 2:14 and 15 is a super verse. It starts with this: “…Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession.” Triumphal procession: that means thrilling, successful evangelism that only comes from Christ’s power. Jesus is the one who does it. He leads us in it. You and I just need to follow His ways, His Word, His voice.

The next part of the verse explains how the Lord leads us in evangelism victory. It says, “Through us [Christ] spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.” That’s really what evangelism is - “spreading around the perfume of Jesus Christ.” That’s what you and I are doing - as we walk in the power of Jesus Christ living inside us.

As we talk to people, chat with them, even joking, playing, and working. We are spreading the fragrance of Christ. We are showing our world real love, true joy, inner peace and lasting hope — the blessings that are found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

So ask the Lord to help others see Him in you - through the words you speak, the smiles you give, and the reactions you make. Christ takes the lead - and asks you to follow. As you do, you’ll be spreading His aroma to the people in your world.

Light in Jesus Christ

Evangelism Tips October 18th, 2009

Victor Hugo, the famous European philosopher and writer, once said this: “The true division of humanity is between those who live in the light and those who live in darkness. Our aim must be to diminish the number of the latter and increase the number of the former.”

That’s a great goal, but then unfortunately Hugo continues with, “that is why we demand education and knowledge.” Education and knowledge we’re all for, of course, but they don’t get you out of darkness into light - at least, not morally and spiritually.

This Christmas, I’m reminded that true light can’t be found in education or science or philosophy. True light is found only in Jesus Christ. Jesus says in John chapter 8, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

This Christmas, don’t lean on your knowledge, or career, or education to enjoy the light of life. Those things are good, but they cannot bring lasting peace. Lasting peace and true life can be found only in Jesus Christ. Surrender to Him today and enjoy living in the light of Jesus Chris

Biblical Stories

Evangelism Tips August 28th, 2009

This Postmodern generation wants stories. They love stories. They learn from stories. And that’s not bad. It’s great to weave stories together as we present the Good News to this generation.

But, as we tell stories, we must always make sure that there is truth in the stories — Biblical truth! In the midst of being relevant to the culture, we need to be making the point of truth. And the truth of the Good News Gospel is centered on the doctrine of the cross. Jesus Christ shed His blood for the sins of the world.

That must be an essential part of the stories we share. Why? Because the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of Christianity. Without the belief that Christ actually died for our sins, rose again, and is alive today at the right hand of God, our religion is just that - religion. With no power to change lives. Remember, without the shedding of blood there’s no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22).

So when we share our faith, you and I must focus on the true story of Jesus Christ’s death the resurrection. It’s amazing, powerful, Good News for a weary and broken world!

God’s Grace

Evangelism Tips August 19th, 2009

The apostle Paul risked everything for the sake of spreading the Good News. In the book of Acts he says, “I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

Later, in II Corinthians, Paul says that “Christ’s love compels us.” That’s why he was risking life and limb, reputation and sickness, hunger and discomfort, to spread the message of Jesus Christ all over the world.

Well, that’s fine for Paul, you might think. But I’m certainly not called like that. It may be true that not all of us are called to travel to the furthest corners of the earth to share the Good News. But each person is called to testify about the grace of God that’s changed our lives. Jesus commands it!

Paul was always aware that he was nothing without Christ’s love and forgiveness. It’s what compelled and motivated him to speak of the Savior until his dying breath. Are you and I that overwhelmed with God’s grace?

If not, maybe it’s time to ask God to remind you how He’s changed your life. That revelation can be a great motivation to speak His truth to your world!
