Stretch Yourself

Evangelism Tips March 26th, 2012

My wife Wendy and I attend a weekly Bible study with good friends. One weekend Wendy decided to host a party so that we could invite new people to join our study. We could have just continued week-after-week with the usual attendees, but she wasn’t content with that. Some people would rather just have their little group to themselves, but that certainly isn’t what Jesus modeled.

The Bible doesn’t tell us to be comfortable- the Bible commands us to reach our world. Jesus was known for hanging out with some interesting people. Among others, he spent time with prostitutes and tax collectors. Not exactly the ’godly, church-going types.”
Jesus did this because he came to “seek and save the lost.” His daily interactions were living proof of His mission.

Let’s make reaching out to the lost our mission as well! The Bible says in Romans that the Good News is “the power of God for salvation.”

When you realize the power in the Good News, you’ll want to reach out to those you wouldn’t normally spend time with. Look for a way that you can expand your circle this week. You’ll never regret stepping out of your comfort zone for the cause of Christ

The Faithful Builder

Evangelism Tips March 23rd, 2012

A large part of the Old Testament explains the construction of the Tabernacle – the place where the Israelites met with God. In those days, they didn’t have the conveniences of modern technology so construction projects were quite an undertaking!  Something as intricate and elaborate as the tabernacle would take, planning, time, and talent.

Moses told the Israelites in Exodus, “The LORD has chosen Bezalel…He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts…So Bezalel… and every skilled person to whom the LORD has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the LORD has commanded.”

Isn’t that amazing?  Bezalel was a faithful construction worker and God chose him to build the Tabernacle!  God wants to use your skills too.  Use your God-given abilities to reach your world, and there’s no telling what God can accomplish through you!

The Faithful Shepherd

Evangelism Tips March 22nd, 2012

David, a hero of the faith, is often remembered for being a mighty warrior and the king of Israel.  But sometimes we forget how he began…  David started out as a shepherd. He worked hard, and developed his craft.  He became the best shepherd he could be.  And his talents came in handy when he faced the Philistine giant, Goliath.  The skills he had honed protecting his sheep were used to take down a mighty enemy!

You may feel like your job as a waitress, or a janitor, or a babysitter isn’t accomplishing anything for God.  But, you never know when those skills will come in handy to take down a ’goliath.’  God has you exactly where you are for a reason.  Become the very best at whatever you’re doing and do it for God.  Paul writes in 1 Corinthians, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Look for ways to use your skills for God’s kingdom and you will be amazed at what He can accomplish through you.  Look for a way to reach your world right where you are today – with the skills and talents God has given you.

The Faithful Midwives

Evangelism Tips March 21st, 2012

Did you know that you can be an evangelist, wherever you are, whatever your occupation?  Now I know you might be thinking, “Well Luis, if I could share the Good News for a living like you, I would be really effective for the Kingdom.” But, I know many people who have shared the Good News with thousands – and they aren’t fulltime evangelists.  They just share their faith in their own career as a teacher, or doctor, or engineer.  God has you where you are for a reason!

In the book of Exodus, Pharaoh decided to murder all of the Israelite baby boys. Amazingly, some of pharos midwives rebelled against him, risked everything, and chose to save the babies!  The Bible records in Exodus, “…because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.”

The midwives were not politicians.  They were not in a position of power.  But right where they were, they took a stand for God, and changed history! The world would be a different place today if those women had carried out Pharaoh’s orders. Remember the faithfulness of these midwives, as you go out to reach your world wherever God has placed you.
